The Ultimate Guide to Preparing for Your Mobile Bridal Hair and Makeup Trial
Booking bridal hair and makeup at home takes the stress out of wedding morning — but a great result starts with a great trial. Here is exactly how to prepare.
1. Pick the right room
Choose a space near a large window with a sturdy table and a chair without a headrest. Your artist needs to move around you on all sides, plus about a metre of clear floor space for their kit.
2. Get the lighting right
Natural daylight is the truest test of a bridal look. Sit facing a window rather than with your back to it, and switch off warm-toned overhead bulbs, which make foundation read darker than it is. If your trial is in the evening, set up two neutral-white lamps at eye level on either side of your face.
3. Prep your skin and hair
Exfoliate two days before, not the night before. Arrive with clean, dry, product-free skin and moisturiser applied 15 minutes prior. For hair, day-old hair holds a style best — wash the night before, skip heavy oils, and bring it fully dry.
4. Communicate your style clearly
Bring five to eight inspiration photos, ideally of people with similar hair texture, skin tone and eye shape to yours. Say what you dislike as well as what you love — "no heavy lashes, matte but not flat" is far more useful than "natural glam". Upload the photos to your Glamly booking so your artist sees them in advance.
5. Plan the timings
A trial usually takes 90 to 120 minutes. On the wedding day, allow 60–75 minutes for the bride and 30–45 minutes per bridesmaid. If your party is larger than four, book a second artist so you are not the last one ready.
6. Photograph the result
Before your artist leaves, take photos in daylight, indoors and with flash. Flash is what most guests will use, and it reveals whether the products used are photo-friendly. Wear the look for a full day to test how it holds.
7. Confirm the wedding-day details
Lock in the address, parking, arrival time, number of people and the deposit before you leave. Ask about touch-up kits, travel time between venues, and the cancellation policy so there are no surprises.
